Project Reality 'Mini-Mod' 0.1 for ARMA2 Announced
PROJECT REALITY ENTERS ARMA2
"The original concept came from [R-DEV]UK_Force over 9 months ago; the aim was to create a modification of ArmA2 in line with the Project Reality vision, bringing PR-style gameplay to the Real Virtuality 3 engine. This project has finally overcome the first hurdle towards becoming a reality with its first release, due soon. The team has drawn on some of the finest ArmA2 modders and developers, and following their amalgamation production, started in earnest with work going on behind the scenes to make this happen before official announcement.
It now gives us great pleasure to officially welcome the personalities responsible for PR:ArmA2 into the Project Reality development team. In doing so, we would like to take this moment to thank them for their hard work over the last few months. We are very proud to officially welcome [R-DEV]StalkerGB, [R-DEV]DeanosBeano, [R-DEV]Dr_Eyeball and [R-DEV]trini_scourge as the newest additions to the Project Reality Development Team!"

Why are they focusing on a single map and army?
Hopefully it will best ACE for PvP and I won't have to worry about it anymore.
Ed: how did their version numbers go from 0.9 to 0.1RC?
Hell, it's already 1.9gb.

It's got Game X written all over it.

I think they're simply ironing out issues before they fully implement PR game-play and all its countries/factions and maps.
Don't worry if it's anything like PR:Bf2 then it's going to have a lot of maps and countries/factions
Currently PR has over 10 maps with 2 game modes AAS/INS.
Countries: US,UK, Israel, China, Russia, Middle East (made up army) Factions: Hamas, Taliban, Chechen Rebels, Iraqi ins.

And much of the international assets already exist in ArmA at a very high quality. Seems to me they're bringing their own vehicles (which I have to say look pretty damned good in the VR3 engine) and using ArmA sourced character units because of the more-engine particular skeletal/animation requirements. StalkerGB has been working on U.K. infantry units for ArmA2 pretty much since release.
Very cool. Even though I knew this was coming it's great to see it's already close to release. I was starting to despair of finding an Insurgency replacement and while there have been several possibles which failed I think the PR team have the wherewithal to make ArmA it.

Awesome.
After some thought I think it very good that they are not using any other mods. While it may be a bit disappointing to lose some of ACE's features, all ACE has been is an enhancement of the same old gameplay with cool toys thrown in - it hasn't in any way improved the non-existent PVP and co-op is only ever as good as the mission. At best it has been the icing on a half-baked cake, tasty icing in my opinion that has given ArmA more legs than vanilla would ever have had, but still just icing, the core structured gameplay (cake) is not there. I'm going to drop this metaphor now before I hurt myself.
This on the other hand potentially solves many problems:
Good PVP modes that were basically non-existent
Variety of realistic new assets that properly flesh out the factions included
Assets that are tied to the factions in a realistic manner
A ready-made mod to put on servers (that is presumably set up for competitive play)
What will make or break it in my opinion is how well they can adapt the game modes to ArmA 2.

Perhaps because they need to start somewhere? As for the map, I don't know but I suspect it's because their game modes have certain requirements such as enterable buildings that aren't widespread in the default maps. A detailed game mode can be very dependent on map design, so making their own might be the most sensible approach. And/or they were always going to have Taliban as enemies so needed a setting

ACE has never done anything for PVP so I don't know what you mean.
THE major problem with ArmA 2 is how much effort it can take to simply get a good game going. The structure isn't there, and co-op missions are very hit-and-miss, sometimes they are brilliant but it's an awful lot of searching and trying to come across those. God knows it doesn't lack content, what it lacks is a synthesis of that into something you can actually jump in and play, PVP or otherwise. I know I'm not alone in finding the lack of that frustrating. If this can fix that it will be utterly brilliant.

Sounds good. I'm rather missing our Arma2 games.

They better not make it gay, I can say that I'm 99% sure that some ArmA2 regularfag will turn it into a co-op thing and all they will do is play that like it's domination.
If that happens I'm trolling the servers and pissing some old bastards that take playing against a computer too seriously... OFF

Perhaps a long shot but a PR dev posted this on the ArmA 2 forums, and I would think he wouldn't be worrying about this if the first release wasn't soon:

Just wanted to know if there are any people who wouldnt mind helping out with the tech side of things on the PR forums for ARMA2, by this I meanhelping people with install problems and general troubleshooting questions.
If anyone is interested in helping out PM me.

I think that's probably driven by the decision of a bunch of PR players to go buy ArmA now rather than an indication of how far away an actual release might be. The language used in recent posts suggests to me it'll be at least a month away and possibly much more.

Looks good. I hope its just a simple all-in-one, 'load up and play' setup, because that will be the best way to pull a lot of BF2 players in.
PS: Can I lick the bowl Lhowon?

Ah quite right, in my eagerness I read that as install problems for PR, not ArmA 2. Damnit.
